Figurative Langauge in Music Videos

5th Graders worked on a Cross-Curricular project with Language Arts during 3rd quarter this year.  They learned about many different types of Figurative Language in reading and writing during Language Arts.  After that they were given a chance to apply what they learned about Figurative Language to the music they love to listen to every day.
Students were asked to pick at least 3 different types of Figurative Language and find at least 2 different songs with lyrics that used those types of Figurative Language. They used this planning sheet to organize their information.  Then, they found the songs on YouTube (with the lyrics) and used www.tubechop.com to take out just the particular lyrics they were referencing.
They used either iMovie or WeVideo to create their movies.
Their movies were graded using a rubric and then after their videos were posted to the blog, they had the chance to go in and watch their classmates videos and leave comments for each other about their creations.

Click on each student's Video Link to watch what they have created!

Country Music, in the form that we know it, has been going strong for over three hundred years in the Southern part of North America. It was not until the 1920s that it started to gain traction though.
